Driver dies in head-on smash

A man was killed and another seriously injured in a two-car head-on crash on a busy road into the Black Country.

Paramedics gave first aid to a man trapped in the wreckage while fire crews battled to cut him free, but he died at the scene.

The man in the other car, believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious chest, leg and back injuries in the accident on the A456 Birmingham Road at Hagley, near Stourbridge, late on Saturday night.

The road was closed from the traffic lights at the Wychbury Inn junction up Hagley Hill for hours after the crash allowing debris and petrol to be cleared.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man who died, who has not yet been named, had suffered multiple injuries.

The other casualty was taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital after the accident at 11.40pm

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews found two cars that had been in a significant collision."
