Rugby star tackles auction
England rugby international and star of TV's Strictly Come Dancing Austin Healey delighted fans when he took the floor once again and helped raise more than £13,000.
As master of ceremonies at Stourbridge Rugby Club yesterday he entertained more than 600 guests with an afternoon of fast-paced speeches and a charity auction.
The club, based at Stourton Park in Bridgnorth Road, hosted a lunch and guests sat down to a four-course meal in the May Marquee set up on the pitch. Beneficiaries of this year's annual end of season celebrations were the British Heart Foundation and Mary Stevens Hospice charities.
Former England ace Austin Healey, who was one of the most experienced players for Leicester Tigers with more than 50 international caps for England and more than 250 appearances for Leicester, presided over the auction with a range of donated goods going under the hammer for £13,150.
A signed shirt worn by Brazilian soccer legend Pele during his last game fetched £700.
The top bid of £3,500 was for a presentation boxing glove belonging to British fighter Ricky Hatton.
