Nahshon Munn, aged 25, of Carlyle Road, The Scotlands, Wolverhampton, Jermaine Gidden, aged 26, of Littlehill Way, South Woodgate, Birmingham, and Darren Levy, aged 27, of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, appeared before magistrates.

They were accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to PC David Biggs.

A fourth man, not yet named, is due to appear to face the same charge after being arrested on Tuesday. PC Biggs was taken to hospital with head injuries and bruising following an incident in Sandyacre Way, Stourbridge, at 1.40am on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 30-year-old constable has since been released from hospital.

Munn is also accused of being in possession of 18 Ecstasy tablets.

Gidden, Levy and Munn all appeared before magistrates in Halesowen yesterday.

The case was committed to Wolverhampton Crown Court. All three defendants were remanded in custody until their next appearance.

The injured officer, who is based in Stourbridge, was hurt when he and a colleague stopped a car to speak to the people inside.

Police had been called to investigate reports of people acting suspiciously near Hammond Way in the early hours of Monday.

Residents in Sandyacre Way, Stourbridge, say they were woken by the sound of flashing lights and sirens following the incident near The Stepping Stones pub.

Detectives appealed to the public for help in tracing the occupants of the car involved.
