Fears as B&Q site to close

A Black Country B&Q store is to close in June which business leaders fear will be a devastating loss for the town.

Plans have already been submitted by supermarket giant Aldi to build a store on the site in New Road, Stourbridge.

But the plan has raised "serious concerns" among the town's Chamber of Trade members who fear it will lead to traffic chaos along the ring road.

They say access to the new supermarket would be on a sharp turning.

The road, which already provides access to the police station and Ryemarket car park, is also narrow and members say many more cars will be using it daily if a supermarket is built.

Signs have now gone up at the B&Q store saying it is due to close shortly. B&Q and Aldi have refused to comment saying the matter is "commercially sensitive".
