Car-jackers stole a Good Samaritan's Mercedes in a country lane in Aldridge - after he was tricked into pulling over to help a young blonde.

Police are now hunting a man and woman following the attack, which happened at 5pm yesterday. It comes after a similar car-jacking in Essington and now police are probing whether there is a link between the two.

The latest victim, who was in his mid 40s, was driving along Crook Lane when he came across a broken down red Metro blocking the road.

Getting out of his silver Mercedes C220 to help, he was approached by a blonde woman with bobbed hair and a northern accent, who asked him to push her car out of the road.

But as he did his good deed, he was struck from behind by a man and pushed into a bush of nettles.

His attacker then jumped into the Mercedes, registration number BF08 FXY, and sped away, while the woman made off in the Metro.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the car jacking, or who may have seen the couple, to come forward.

DS Mick Hinton, of Walsall police, said: "This was a most unusual incident in a quiet area which is usually free from crime.

"This is something that doesn't happen very often anyway but especially not in this location. This was a quiet country lane, where there is just a handful of houses."

In January, a Land Rover Discovery was stolen in Landywood Lane, Essington, after its driver stopped to help a woman who told him she had broken down.

The woman in the latest scam was aged around 28 to 30 and was between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins.

Anyone who witnessed the latest robbery or has information should call CID at Walsall police on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers.
