It was once described as the Las Vegas of Wolverhampton.

And months after closing its doors to make way for a multi-million pound replacement, the bright lights of Strykers are shining again. Wolves legend Steve Bull added some celebrity glamour to the official opening celebrations in Bushbury last night.

The former striker cut the ribbon on the refurbished bowling alley in front of 70 guests who helped to mark the start of a new era at the site, where 35 jobs have been created. The refurbished venue, in Shaw Road, now features six American Pool tables, a Kidz Zone, restaurant, sports bar and function room which caters for up to 300 people, as well as a 24-lane bowling alley.

Steve Bull, who told how he visited the old Strykers site as a youngster, said he was glad it had reopened. "This place really has been missed around here," he said.

Owner Sam Samra said it was a relief to see the venue open after months of hard work. "It's really exiting," he said.

The site has been boarded up since it closed in November 2008. Its previous owners, AMF Bowling, closed its doors to make way for a new state-of-the-art £2.5million bowling alley at Bentley Bridge in Wednesfield.
