Ian Wood, who has been running for more than 22 years and has taken part in the London Marathon six times, was invited to try out the new equipment in the gym.

Ian, aged 46, of Hednesford, who ran in London for the sixth time on Sunday, said: "I'm so impressed with these new treadmills.

"They are improving my training routine no end. It's great that they have inbuilt suspension to reduce injuries and inbuilt fans to keep you cool.

"Although running is invigorating, it can get a bit repetitive, so the flat-screen TVs and iPod access points are a real bonus as well," he added.

The leisure centre in High Street, which opened in 2002, also offers a 25-metre main pool, separate heated learner pool, jacuzzi, two squash courts, a sports hall and cafe.
