Firefighters went to the rescue of a swan clipped by a car as it made a low take-off from the River Stour in Kidderminster town centre.

Fire crews managed to capture the dazed bird and also realised it also had a hook caught in its leg.

They called in officials from the Bishops Wood Swan Rescue at Crossway Green, near Stourport, who hope to release the bird back onto the river.

Firefighter Wayne Berry said: "It appears the swan was flying over the bridge from the River Stour, close to the fire station yesterday morning when it was accidentally clipped by a car.

"A passer-by called us for help and we managed to capture the bird. As a precaution we called the Swan Rescue and they hope to release the bird back to join his mate in the next few days."
