Minutes later another man died in an accident on another stretch of motorway in Staffordshire.
Drivers on the M5 and M6 motorways faced delays today after police closed the roads following the deaths which happened within 10 minutes of each other in the early hours of the morning.
The woman was found at 2.50am and police closed a slip road of the M5 and the Birchley Island in Oldbury.
The victim, in her 20s, was found with serious head injuries and was taken to hospital where she later died.
Details of how she was injured remain unclear today.
Drivers trying to get off the motorway were being diverted to Junction 3 at Birmingham all morning.
Minutes later a man was killed after a lorry, a car and campervan collided on the M6 southbound between junctions 16 and 15 at Stoke-on-Trent just before 3am.
