A driver who died in his cab was today carried to his funeral on the lorry instead of a traditional hearse as a tribute from his workmates.

More than 70 mourners turned out to give father-of-two David Garbett a fitting send off as his coffin arrived at Gornal Crematorium on the back of a HGV.

Friends, family and colleagues lined up outside the chapel to await the coffin's arrival. Mr Garbett, who was 42 and lived at Kendall Rise, Kingswinford, had driven trucks all his working life and his former employer Andy Freight Ltd in Lye donated an articulated lorry for the procession.

The lorry used was the one driven by Mr Garbett during his work over the past two and a half years.

Mr Garbett suffered a fatal heart attack in his cab on April 1 after parking his lorry for the night following a journey to Sussex. He leaves wife Jennifer, aged 37, and sons Ricky, 15, and Luke, five.
