A Black Country market is set to open on Bank Holiday Monday for the first time in its 15-year plus history.

Bosses behind the Sunday Bescot Market in Walsall are holding the extra trading day to help stallholders and bring in more shoppers.

This will apply to all bank holidays this year and comes after traders asked for more days to sell their goods at the pitch. The weekend market has been running on the car parks of Walsall Football Club since 1993 and has around 250 stalls a week.

Bosses at LSD Promotions, which manage the pitch, expect more than 100 stalls to be running for the first non-Sunday market next week. Others will also be held on May Day Spring Bank Holiday and August Bank Holiday.

Director Dermot McGillicuddy said: "Sunday markets have been operating for a number of years but we have never run a bank holiday market. It is a hard year for traders who are looking for more outlets to trade from and the public are looking for more good markets to spend on."
