Bus service to be halved
A bus service between Cannock and Wolverhampton will be halved due to falling passenger numbers.
The number 69 Arriva Midlands service will run hourly from April 14 instead of every 30 minutes.
The bus company says it took the decision after monitoring the service and discovering a significant decline in the number of passengers.
The number 69 bus runs through Great Wyrley, Landywood, Essington and Wednesfield.
Communications manager Keith Myatt said: "Although we have seen a significant reduction in the number of customers travelling on route 69 we will continue to provide a link-up to every 60 minutes daytime Monday to Saturday between Cannock and Wolverhampton through Great Wyrley and Essington.
"Route 70 will continue to provide buses every 20 minutes during the daytime, Monday to Saturday between Cannock and Wolverhampton through Cheslyn Hay and Featherstone. There are evening and Sunday buses too."
Essington councillor David Clifft said drivers struggled to meet the previous timetable. He said: "It is a double-edged sword. On one hand it is a reduction in service, but I have been complaining there is no way that service can be turned round in half an hour.
"It has caused problems with buses running late and some drivers have even turned round en route to get back in time. They have told me themselves it isn't possible to go between Wolverhampton and Cannock while stopping for passengers in half an hour."
