Mystery surrounds the closure of The Bagot Arms, in Newhampton Road West, Whitmore Reans, which hit the headlines when it became the scene of the fatal shooting of 26-year-old bystander Luke Harris.

At the time, police asked council bosses to review its licence over fears it was a hazard.

But it was saved from closure in June last year following a three-hour licensing meeting which heard its owners wanted to transform it into a family-friendly pub with a restaurant.

Blackboards have now gone up telling customers it is "closed until further notice". St Peter's ward councillor Roger Lawrence said: "There are neighbours who will be pleased the pub has closed."

Leighton Cohen, 21, of Mostyn Street, Whitmore Reans, who killed Mr Harris, from All Saints, after a row was jailed for at least 23 years in January.
