Unsigned bands in Burntwood who think they have what it takes to perform at this year's Wakes festival can attend special audition sessions next month.

The Wakes – Unsigned was introduced for the first time at last year's Burntwood Wakes. The event saw seven up-and-coming bands performing on the main stage on Friday night to kick off the weekend-long festival – the biggest event in the town's calendar. Talent is now being sought to take part in this year's spectacular.

The free festival was such a success it is being brought back for the 2009 Wakes, and the team behind the event are on the hunt for fresh talent to take part.

Demos have already been flooding in to Neon Sound Studios in Burntwood ahead of the cut-off date of April 30, and now live auditions have been set for fledgeling bands without a demo to send in.

Auditions will be taking place at Neon Studios on the New Road Industrial Estate on April 4 and 11 from 10am until 1pm.

Organisers are also looking for a DJ or MC to provide links between performances at the Wakes - Unsigned, which is open to all genres of music.

This year's Burntwood Wakes will take place from August 7 to 9 in the town, kicking off with the Unsigned event on Friday night.

On Saturday afternoon a family fun day will see everything from an ice rink to a climbing wall set up in the grounds of Burntwood Rugby Club, followed by a Proms in the Park concert as night falls.

A 60s summer festival on Sunday featuring Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Searchers will be the Wakes finale.

Musicians auditioning for the Wakes - Unsigned should be aged under 25 and live in the area. To set up an audition call 01543 677012.
