A south Staffordshire secondary school has announced it is making redundancies.

Staff at Codsall Community High School were told that jobs would be lost across the board at a special meeting yesterday.

Staffordshire County Council spokesman Tom Hobbins confirmed that a notice had been served on the Elliotts Lane comprehensive by the local authority. It is not clear yet how many jobs are to go but it is believed to be in the region of 12 to 15.

The school, which was established in 1940, employs 100 staff and caters for 1,300 pupils aged 13 to 18, including about 300 sixth-formers. Its catchment area includes Bilbrook, Perton and Pattingham.

The job losses were revealed by headteacher Marjorie Tunnicliffe.

A staff member, who did not want to be named, said colleagues had been warned several weeks ago that jobs might have to go but heard nothing more until yesterday's meeting.
