Strykers to open again as new alley
A landmark bowling alley in Wolverhampton which has been boarded up for more than six months will be brought back to life in all its former glory in May, creating 40 new jobs, it was revealed today.
Strykers, in Shaw Road, Bushbury, will reopen to the public as a different bowling alley.
The site's previous owners AMF Bowling sold the site on to an unnamed private investor after moving from the popular venue to a new £2.5 million alley in Wednesfield.
The new owners, who do not yet want to be named, confirmed today the building is currently being refurbished for its relaunch in May. Attractions will include arcade machines, a kids' zone and a bar.
The building's former snooker room is being transformed into a function room for up to 300 people.
Bosses also say the revamped alley will offer value for money and previous prices of games and drinks will be halved.
Wolverhampton City Council leader Neville Patten said the opening was great news for Bushbury and the whole of Wolverhampton.
"It was missed when it closed so I'm glad it's reopening as a bowling alley. It's a real boost for the area," he said.
