A man found dead in his back garden in Staffordshire died as a result of a single stab wound to the chest, a post mortem examination has revealed.

John Wright, aged 61, was found at the back of his detached home in Scholars Gate, Burntwood, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were initially treating the incident as a "domestic murder", and a woman understood to be his wife – named locally as Ellen Wright – was arrested on Sunday. She was later released without charge.

Detectives are now treating Mr Wright's death as unexplained.

The police cordon and all traces of the investigation had been removed from the house yesterday evening, and some normality returned to the quiet cul-de-sac off Church Road.

Mr Wright's family last night refused to comment.
