The ambitious superstore facelift features a new first floor shopping level and single storey deck car park.

A planning application for major improvements is due to be submitted later this year. Chris Marlow, property communications manager for Asda, said: "We're delighted with the very positive response we have received for our proposals."

If the scheme is approved it will create up to 75 full and part-time jobs.

Asda has a long history in the town but closed in 1997 after 18 years. However, bosses decided to return and opened a modern store in 2002.

The proposals include construction of a mezzanine level shopping floor.
