But Kerry Ramsey is today launching a desperate new appeal for information to help track down the driver responsible for the death of the dad she never met.

Mr Ramsey was killed on April 9 1982, when he was hit by a car in Sutton Road, Aldridge.

He was cycling to his Aldridge home from a pub in Great Barr when he was hit and left for dead.

The driver of the car has never been caught.

Mr Ramsey's youngest daughter, 26-year-old Kerry, born just weeks after he died, has vowed to continue her quest to find the culprit. I'm going to keep on going until the killer is found," she said.

"At the end of the day, somebody did something wrong and they are walking free. I can't explain what it's been like growing up with this hanging over us."

The mother-of-three, of Collingwood Drive, in Pheasey, said she was sad her own children, 12-year-old Nathan, Lauren five and three-year-old Dylan, would never get to meet their grandfather.

In 2006, it was revealed it was thought some of the files relating to the case had been destroyed by West Midlands Police and the family is hoping fresh information would see the case reopened.

Kevin Ramsey was born in Great Barr before moving to Aldridge.

The factory worker also had two other daughters, Donna and Nicola, who were six and three respectively when he was killed.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We have every sympathy with the family and share their desire to bring the driver to justice.

"We have liaised with them for much of the last 27 years to achieve that aim.

"If anyone has new information we would urge them to come forward."
