Jobs at risk as Makro closing
Cash and carry giant Makro today announced plans to close its Wolverhampton superstore, putting more than 100 jobs at risk.

A total of 127 people work at the business in Steelpark Way, Wednesfield, and if the plan goes ahead, it will close for good on May 31.
Stores in Coventry and Swansea have also been earmarked for potential closure by the company, which said the economic slump was behind its decision.
The move will affect 378 jobs across the country.
Makro spokeswoman Marie Carter said today: "We can confirm that unfortunately, due to difficult trading times and a need to reduce costs, we are proposing to close the Wolverhampton store.
"The proposal, which is now subject to consultation with employees and their representatives, will affect the 127 staff there."
Wolverhampton Makro opened in December 2003. Swansea, which employs 112 workers, was launched in 1994, followed by Coventry, which employs 139 people, in 2001.
Makro UK, which is part of Metro Cash and Carry, currently operates a network of 33 cash and carry superstores across the country. It offers hundreds of discounted brand name products to card holders.
