Council reveals children's services director
A new face is ready to take the helm as director of children's services at Dudley Council.
Forrmer headteacher Mark Wyatt, aged 52, will take up the post in May.
He is currently chief officer for children's services at Wolverhampton Council – a position he has held for four years.
The father-of-five has previously worked in senior roles for Birmingham City and Telford and Wrekin District Councils. He has also worked as a headteacher in Birmingham.
Mr Wyatt said: "I am very excited to be joining Dudley Council which is well regarded as an excellent four-star authority.
"It also gives me an opportunity to further my commitment to improving the lives of children and young people through high-quality services." Mr Wyatt, a former music teacher, lives in Much Wenlock and his hobbies include going to the theatre, sport and outdoor pursuits.
Leader of Dudley Council, Councillor David Caunt said: "I am very pleased Mark has agreed to come and work with us at Dudley Council.
"He brings with him a mass of corporate experience and I am confident his refreshing attitude and approach to children's services will serve young people throughout the borough extremely well."
His appointment follows John Freeman's move to the Local Government Association at Christmas.
Father-of-three Mr Freeman, aged 57, was awarded a CBE for services to local government.
Earlier this month, Mike Williams, the council's director of finance, announced he was taking early retirement after 16 years service.
