A week is a long time for the weather - with temperatures leaping 20 degrees in a matter of days, from -10C (14F) earlier in the week to 10C (50F) today.

It will be a relief for people suffering under the coldest snap the West Midlands has seen since the 1980s.

But there is a drawback - the brightness of the past week will be replaced by strong winds, cloud and rain.

The huge temperature range is unusual in a single week, even for the notoriously unpredictable Britain weather.

A warm front is coming in from the Atlantic, bringing the milder, wetter conditions.

But among today's football fixtures postponed because of the weather are Blackpool v Birmingham, Walsall v Brighton and Hednesford v Welling.
