Help for ex-Wolves star
Former Wolves star Paul Birch, who is fighting cancer, was given a boost this afternoon at the Villa and Albion derby.
Old players from both teams became charity collectors in aid of the 46-year-old, who also played for Villa, before the match at Villa Park. Around 20 members of the Villa and Baggies former players' associations were deployed around the ground to collect cash for the Paul Birch Trust.
Villa's FPA chairman Neil Rioch said: "With Wolves being the traditional enemy of West Brom it's great that these guys have come out to support an ex-Wolves player. It just shows the mutual respect there is between former players."
Birch, who moved from Villa to Wolves for £400,000 in 1991, made around 200 appearances for the Molineux club, scoring 14 goals. The hard-working midfield star quickly became a fans' favourite through his busy style of play.
