Train passengers travelling between the West Midlands and London faced 90 minute delays today because of technical problems.

Overhead wire problems at Wembley meant there were no Virgin Trains or London Midland trains to and from London Euston.

Both companies were advising passengers not to travel unless "absolutely necessary".

Today Virgin Trains said it was hoping to run an hourly return service from Wolverhampton to Euston from 11am.

It comes a day after more delays caused overhead wire problems at Rugby and Bletchley. Last week there were further delays after a light aircraft crashed onto the line in Colwich, near Stafford.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Passengers are advised to check with train operators."
