Woolies getting extra 24 hours
Woolworths stores that were expected to close today will remain open for another 24 hours.
Branches across the West Midlands and Staffordshire are among 200 outlets given a reprieve by the firm's administrator Deloitte that allows them to continue trading until tomorrow.
Shops affected are Wolverhampton, Bilston, Bloxwich, Brierley Hill, Stafford, Stourport-on-Severn and Tamworth.
The final closure has also been delayed by a day, with the remaining 200 stores, including those at Wednesfield, Bearwood, Cannock and Lichfield now set to close their doors for the last time on January 6.
Deloitte spokesman James Morley said: "There are two main reasons.
"One, stock levels - there's still some stock remaining. Two, workload - it's a big logistical exercise. The remaining dates were delayed to allow time for the final arrangements to be made."
More than half the UK stores have already shut for good. At least 150 of the retailer's 807 outlets held their last day of trading on December 30, with everything, including the fixtures and fittings, on sale at discount prices. Among those were branches at Halesowen, Stourbridge and West Bromwich.
