But Christmas wouldn't be the same without a traditional tree and today the Express & Star is on the lookout for some of the best-dressed trees in the region.

We want pictures of you and your family posing next to your Christmas trees so that we can feature them in the Express & Star and on our internet site www.expressandstar.com.

Your tree might be real or artificial. You may have gone for tradition with baubles and an angel on top, or you might like to go modern with a black, green or red tree.

There might be a family heirloom like an angel or star that has come out every Christmas for generations.

Or you might have decorated your tree with decorations made by your children.

You might even decide this year to dispense with a tree and get arty with tree branches sprayed gold or a home-made tree made out of metal wire or pipe cleaners.

So get snapping, and don't forget to include yourselves and your family in the pictures, adding a few words about yourselves and your tree.

Enjoy putting your tree up – and Happy Christmas!

It's easy to send pictures of your Christmas tree to the Express & Star:

* Email us at: picturedesk@expressand star.co.uk

* Text: 88833, starting with the word NEWS (don't forget to use capital letters). Standard network charges apply

* Send to: Christmas Trees, Newsdesk, Express & Star, 51-53 Queen Street, WV1 1ES

Don't forget to include pictures of you and your family and provide full names of those in the picture, where you are from and a few words to describe your tree.
