Costa Coffee is opening in the centre on December 1, taking over the former Morelli's cafe, which has been closed since April.

Work is due to start tomorrow to transform the central area of the shopping centre.

The franchise owners say they have been flooded with requests for application forms from people living in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, as well as closer to Stourbridge, for full and part-time positions.

They fear a one-day slot planned for recruiting 10 staff on November 16 in one of the Ryemarket units will not be enough.

Jacky Elliott, of franchise owners Central Coffee Ltd, confirmed they had been inundated with applications. "People have been going crazy for coffee shop jobs. We will have to bring the recruitment drive forward a day to cope."

Advertisements were placed just three days ago for the positions.
