Dave Heeley with his familyHeroic blind runner Dave Heeley and his guide Malcolm Carr are to be treated to an open top bus tour around West Bromwich after completing their record breaking marathon mission.

Crossing the finish line at the London Marathon yesterday, Dave became the first blind person to complete seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

Overwhelmed and emotional, he finished yesterday's final leg in five hours and 20 minutes, falling straight into the arms of his wife Debbie and their three children. "I'm still in that stage where I can't really believe I've done it. I'm going to have a rest now." Dave and running partner Malcolm, known as Mac, started their gruelling endurance mission in the Falkland Islands a week ago.

They were inspired to take on the challenge by Dave's three guide dogs Peter, Carla and currently Wicksie, who have given him life-changing independence.
