Rider is killed in collision

A motorcyclist died following a collision with a car in Cannock.

The accident happened in Pye Green Road at 10.40 last night.

Paramedics were unable to save the man, who has not been named. He died at the scene.

Meanwhile, a Rugeley man was critically ill in hospital today after a smash in which he was one of seven people injured.

The man, aged 50, was driving a Mercedes Sprinter van that collided with a VW Golf on the A51 in Great Haywood, near Stafford, at 6.50am yesterday.

The car driver, a man in his 40s from Stafford, was "serious but stable".

The other five people in the van – all from Rugeley – were also injured. A man aged 41 and a man in his 50s were "serious" today. Three other men, aged 48, 28 and 20, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
