A public meeting has been called tonight to discuss a plan by supermarket chain Lidl to open a store in Lichfield.

Lidl, which has made its name in offering cheaper food items, is hoping to open a store on the Three Spires Group site, currently the Bed Superstore, in Eastern Avenue.

A meeting for resident and traders will be held from 5pm to 7.30pm today at the site of the proposed store.

Visitors will be able to view the plans and associated job opportunities with members of the development team on hand to answer any questions.

A spokesman for Lidl said: "We have been looking to build a store in Lichfield as part of our ongoing expansion programme throughout the UK.

"The event is to allow traders and residents the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the proposed development."
