Boost for parks and gardens
National Trust parks and gardens in the West Midlands are launching a new season with longer opening times and extra attractions.
National Trust parks and gardens in the West Midlands are launching a new season with longer opening times and extra attractions.
Most properties in the region are opening from 11am – and Wolverhampton's Wightwick Manor is opening its doors for an extra day.
Fine weather, an early Easter and Mothering Sunday are all expected to pull in the visitors, as well as a host of new tours and activities.
National Trust spokeswoman Jo Mason said: "We've got some great events lined up, including Easter egg trails, Mother's Day events and half-term fun for all the children.
"From March, many National Trust properties will be welcoming visitors from 11am, offering an even longer special day out."
A new publicity drive by the charity highlights the extra hours, together with the tea rooms and restaurants available at most attractions.
Moseley Old Hall in Wolverhampton and Attingham Park in Shrewsbury are also opening their doors from 11am, along with Wightwick Manor.
The manor will also open for an extra day. From March 1 to August 2, visitors will be able to explore the Victorian mansion from 11am until 5pm, Wednesdays to Saturdays, and from August 3 to 31 on Sundays too.
Other new events include the dining room at Attingham Hall being displayed as it would have been for a dinner party in the 1830s and the opening of the Geological Gallery at Biddulph Grange Garden.
The charity has been involved in the renovation of Knowles Mill in the Wyre Forest. The mill was heavily damaged in the 2007 floods but will be reopening for visits in early spring.
And it also looks after thousands of acres of open land in the region, including the Clent Hills and the stone houses at Kinver Edge.
