I'll never take the bus again

I refer to the letter of December 31 in the Express & Star regarding violent behaviour on our buses.

Last Sunday I travelled to Birmingham on the 126 bus to the Symphony Hall. It seemed the easiest route for me. No problems on the outward journey.

At 5.20pm I boarded the 126 back to Wolverhampton. At a stop somewhere in Oldbury eight to ten youths boarded the bus and went upstairs without paying. The driver who was a woman stopped the bus and very bravely went upstairs and told them to pay or get off the bus or she would call the police.

Nothing happened, she came downstairs and carried on the journey. At the next bus stop another party of youths got on, this time they paid. They went upstairs.

What went on upstairs is anybody's guess – the noise, the jumping up and down. I thought the ceiling was coming in. People were coming downstairs to sit down. This went on all the way to Wolverhampton.

When we got to Snow Hill the youths decided to come downstairs to get off. The driver opened the doors briefly and closed them quickly only letting two or three off. This happened again at Market Street and again until we reached the bus station.

It was the worst journey of my life and I certainly will not be travelling this way again.

Fortunately I do not have to depend on public transport and feel very sorry for people who do. It needs stopping right now.

Name and address supplied, Wolverhampton.
