A husband and wife have been charged with duping people out of thousands of pounds by allegedly claiming to be collecting money for the County Air Ambulance.

It is alleged a six-figure sum was collected from the Cannock, Rugeley, Lichfield and South Staffordshire areas over almost 10 years.

Police charged a 51-year-old woman and her 56-year-old husband, both of Chase Terrace, with nine charges each of going equipped to cheat and a further charge each of fraud.

They will appear before Cannock Magistrates on January 15.
