Tettenhall – Land of the Couldn't-Care-Less, that is with the exception of the few residents who turn up to local meetings.

On December 6 there was a meeting at the Kings School with West Midlands Fire Service, which had been well advertised, including some 400 leaflets being distributed.

The hall was set out with up to 300 seats, as it was thought that many residents would like to voice their opinions on the suggestion that Tettenhall Fire Station be closed every day from 11pm until 11am, the fire appliance being moved to Wolverhampton to give extra cover for the city. This would mean Tettenhall Fire Station would only be operational for less than 12-hours a day.

There were many reasons put forward as to why this was proposed, and these were argued about by the people present, not by 300 residents, but by 25 who had made the effort to put forward their reasons why this should not happen.

It is obvious that the proposers think the people of Tettenhall are not interested in their fire cover, and will show this when the consultation comes to be fact.

Excuses for non-attendance were put forward, such as bad weather. But where were the two Tettenhall Regis Conservative councillors – no apology was presented for their absence. They will no doubt appear, rain or shine when elections are due. One Tettenhall Regis and two Tettenhall Wightwick councillors attended with an apology from the third.

The services for Tettenhall are being whittled away. We have a dedicated number of police officers doing their sterling work in our area, but the police station is not open to the public, and used in part for other purposes than police work. The ambulance station has only one ambulance, the other five bays having been turned into offices.

What happens when Severn Trent close the Regis Road Depot and sells off the land, as was inferred? Will the fire station also be included, and the lot sold for housing development? Tettenhall will become a backwater with no services at all.
