Chasetown have launched a campaign to get soul star Heather Small to sing their inspirational FA Cup theme tune live ahead of their clash with Cardiff City.
The team, who made it through to the third round of the FA Cup this week for the first time in their history, played her track Proud to get the crowd going ahead of the game with Port Vale.
Burntwood town councillor and long-time Chasetown supporter Paul Atkins said an appearance at the match by the famous singer – best known as the frontwoman of the band M People – would be a huge boost for the players.
He said: "We're trying to find out if there is any possibility of Heather Small actually coming down to sing the song before the Cardiff match. If she agreed it would be absolutely tremendous, it would just put the icing on the cake."
Should Heather agree to perform before the match, which will take place in January, the club are hoping she will be belting out their tune at their Church Street ground.
Talks between the FA's safety committee, stewards from Cardiff and Chasetown club officials to establish whether the game can be staged at the non-league side's home ground were set to resume on Monday.
