M6 Toll prices go up
M6 Toll charges are set to rise by up to £1. Bosses at Midland Expressway, which run the route, are raising toll charges from January 1.
Cars using the 27-mile motorway will pay an extra 50p, bringing the toll up to £4.50 at peak times.
Vans and HGVs will pay an extra £1 bringing the drivers' fees up to £9.
The price rises come just weeks after the toll road was accused of being too expensive by professional business organisation Success.
Bosses at the motorway, which links junction four of the M6 in Warwickshire to junction 11A near Cannock, say the prices will begin from 6am on New Years Day.
Motorcycles will not see any increase and cars exiting the toll road at the local toll stations will continue to benefit from a £1 discount compared to the new toll rates at the main toll plazas either end of the route.
The monthly lease charge for tag accounts, which allows drivers to pass through the toll without stopping, will increase by 50p per tag but users get a five per cent discount.
Tom Fanning, chief executive of MEL, said: "We are providing an excellent service for our customers and the M6 Toll remains excellent value for money."
Earlier this month, Success, an organisation representing professionals in the area, said members were avoiding the M6 Toll because it was too expensive.
Today chairman Sue Arnold said: "The rise in prices will further discourage motorists using the M6 Toll Road."
