Bosses at the memorial, which was visited by the Queen in October, wants to find a voluntary fundraiser to help it generate revenue.

The person would have to give their time freely and will help the memorial cope with thousands of visitors to the site in Alrewas.

The National Memorial Arboretum comprises 150 acres of trees and memorials, including the new Armed Forces Memorial, and is a national focal point for remembrance.

The site received national publicity when the Queen dedicated the Armed Forces Memorial and bosses say the site is attracting several thousand visitors a week.

Now they need to find a fundraiser, who will be tasked with generating additional revenue that will help the arboretum reach the next stage in its development.

The arboretum's chief executive, Charlie Bagot Jewitt, said: "The arboretum has this year gained a much greater profile across the UK and we are now welcoming many new visitors every day.

"We do not charge for entry, so the challenge is to look at creative ways of finding funds to cope with the demands that are being made of us.

"The list of things we need financial support for is almost endless.

"We have only 12 employees and to provide every visitor with an experience that will live with them forever, we rely heavily on a strong network of volunteers."

He added: "We do not have the resources to pay for a fundraiser but believe that the role may be of interest to an experienced fundraising professional that is looking for a fresh challenge or to someone looking to develop their skills and experience in this area."

The role could be full time or part-time, with the person being based at the arboretum's Alrewas home. All travel and out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

People interested in applying for or discussing this role should email Mr Bagot Jewitt on bagot@thenma.org.uk or phone him on 01283 792333.
