Justice awards winners honoured

The winners of the fourth annual Staffordshire Justice Awards will be honoured at a special ceremony in Lichfield.

The winners of the fourth annual Staffordshire Justice Awards will be honoured at a special ceremony in Lichfield.

The awards on Monday are part of the national Inside Justice Week campaign in the county.

A volunteer with 17 years service and a team who have operated an intensive programme of monitored evidence based activities designed to assist offenders break the cycle of offending, have been named among the winners in eight categories in the awards – a national scheme that recognises excellence in the Criminal Justice System.

The winners are: Outstanding achievement in caring for victims, Susan Wilson; outstanding achievement in caring for witnesses, Sandy Avison and Northern Cyprus trial team; outstanding contribution to working with offenders, Chase division prolific offender project team (Det Sgt Nigel Braun,Stuart Breeze, Sharon Latham, Dc Diane Mahon, Steve Pilling, Lilan Shaw and Julie Whittaker).

Outstanding contribution to tackling youth crime, Biddulph Neighbourhood Police Unit; outstanding contribution to engaging local communities, Sgt Lindon Evans; outstanding commitment to diversity, Chase Diversity Forum (Pc Andrew Clarke, Mark Crank, Chief Superintendent Nick Howe, Chief Inspector Juliet Prince, Dawn Robertson, Inspector Elliott Sharrard-Williams, Vince Simpson and Kathrine Thompson); long service award for continued commitment and dedication, Stephen Allen and Anne Smith and volunteer of the year, Peter Cave.

The awards will be presented by Staffordshire's Chief Constable Chris Sims as chairman of Staffordshire Criminal Justice Board

"This is excellent news and we offer our congratulations to all our winners.

"To see our staff recognised in our award scheme is a real tribute to the work that is being done in across the Criminal Justice System in Staffordshire. The board's priority is to increase public confidence in the system and rebalance it in favour of the law-abiding majority.

"The winners in our finals will go a long way to demonstrating that our joined-up approach really can make a difference."

Staffordshire Criminal Justice Board brings together the chief officers of criminal justice agencies including the Courts Service, Crown Prosecution Service, National Probation Service, Police Service, Prison Service and the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Youth Offending Services.

The agencies share the responsibilities of reducing crime and the fear of crime in Staffordshire.
