Mail box poster warning
Posters have been placed on postboxes across the Midlands urging people not to use them and to take any mail to the nearest Post Office.
The posters declare: "Important notice. Please do not post in this box. We cannot guarantee a collection from October 4-9 inclusive. Please take mail to the nearest post office."
Royal Mail today insisted that the postal strike was crumbling as staff started the new strike.
Royal Mail maintained that 50 per cent more workers were defying the walkouts than during previous stoppages, but were unable to provide figures .
Staff believe new flexible working practices, at the centre of the dispute, are being introduced from today at the sorting office in Sun Street, Wolverhampton, where 800 staff handle 2 million letters for the region.
The Communications Workers Union said members were firmly behind the action over pay, pensions and new working practices – and warned of more strikes.
