Hypocrisy on heritage

Every time I open a local newspaper I am faced with a photograph of Cllr Adrian Andrew looking suitably devastated at the remains of Shannon Mill and quotes from both him and Cllr Louise Harrison about the loss of the building to Walsall's heritage.

While I agree that it is a tragic loss and can never be replaced, these two are a little hypocritical.

Both these councillors are part of the Cabinet team at Walsall Council who agreed to withdraw the £12,000 grant that helped to fund the Lock Museum in Willenhall, meaning that the museum may be removed brick by brick to the Black Country Museum in Dudley.

Now I know that Willenhall is not significant to this Conservative-run council but to the people of Willenhall this is our heritage and we are proud of it.

By saving the paltry sum of £12,000 you are allowing our heritage to be moved to Dudley and to the people of Willenhall you are judged no better than the vandals that burnt down Shannon Mill.

Like all Tories, they know the cost of everything and the value of nothing! Furthermore, I now read with disgust that the curator of Walsall Museum is asking the people of Willenhall to donate any lock memorabilia they have to Walsall.

A little insensitive at this time I think!
