This morning, as motorists made their way in and out of the city centre, a section of the outbound carriageway of Cannock Road was cordoned off, with police directing the flow of traffic.

A pathway and car park off Cannock Road, plus parts of Prosser Street and Crowther Street were also closed. Markers were placed in the road in Prosser Street by spots of blood.

Neville Salmon, aged 59, who lives on the corner of Prosser Street and Crowther Street, said: "It is usually a quiet area. I have lived here for about two years and not seen anything like this.

"It is bad for the area and its image.

"I was out last night so didn't see anything.

"I am just waiting to see if I can get back into my house. It's a bit of a nightmare." No-one had been arrested this morning.
