The Queen and Prince Charles are set to be the guests of honour at the formal dedication ceremony of a £7million memorial in Staffordshire next month.

Remembering 16,000 Armed Forces personnel, the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, will be dedicated on October 12.

A total of 3,000 tickets have been allocated for families and friends of those killed on duty since 1948, and are only available by application. The closing date is September 14. The memorial will open to the general public on October 29.

The tribute will list the names of 15,500 personnel who have lost their lives in service since the end of World War Two.

Today the Ministry of Defence confirmed that both the Queen and Prince of Wales, who is patron of the memorial, are expected to be present on the day.

Application forms for tickets are available online from the website www.forcesmemorial.org
