It's a wrap for Beatties bags

Beatties carrier bags have been removed from its Wolverhampton and Dudley department stores and replaced with House of Fraser ones.

All Beatties-labelled plastic bags and gift boxes were removed at the weekend and replaced with black cardboard holders stamped with the new owner's name.

It is the latest move by House of Fraser to transform the 130-year-old business into one of its own stores, leading to fears the name of the shop will soon be consigned to history.

A long-serving staff member in Wolverhampton said: "All that is left is the name now. We know it will go soon, but nobody knows when."

Last month the Victoria Street store replaced its Costa Coffee shop with Caffe Nero, which has outlets in House of Fraser stores across the country.

It has also introduced designer clothing also stocked in its UK stores. The only Beatties stores left are in Wolverhampton and Dudley.

A statement from House of Fraser today read: "There are no immediate plans to change the name of Beatties."

Wolverhampton South West MP Rob Marris said: "This is death of the Beatties name."
