Mucky way of moving travellers
It is now reported almost daily that some set of travellers have moved on, leaving the usual costly mess for us to pay for and the local community in a state of disgust and shock.
My heart goes out to the people local to where they squat as, along with the mess, there is often a high level of intimidation not only by the adults but children as well.
Until you have experienced this situation, it is impossible to appreciate how awful and frightening it can be – it is your worst nightmare come true. No-one in this country should have to put up with this ongoing situation.
They play us for complete fools and idiots and get away with it every time with total impunity and disregard for anyone, especially the law.
Like many, I cannot understand why it takes days for the process of law to complete to be able to move them on.
It is this process time that gives them their free squatting time, and I ask why there is not an option available to the police to immediately throw them off as soon as they are spotted. Maybe we should take a leaf out of the farmer's book on whose land some travellers squatted some years ago.
He remonstrated with them, to be told where to go, and was threatened physically.
So he went onto the field with a muckspreader and sprayed the complete field including cars, caravans, everything that was there. The travellers moved immediately as the one thing you cannot do to them is make a mess of their caravans.
They also set the police on to the farmer, who simply told them it was his right to fertilise his property whenever he felt like it and if they came back it would need to be fertilised again.
Is this not an option? It is a "green" solution and biodegradable, and not even these people will stay where it is spread everywhere, especially over them and their precious caravans. If the local councils invested in such a machine, it would pay for itself very quickly.
Let's for once beat them to it; let us be the ones who give them a taste of their own medicine for a change.
