Re the article by Eileen Wells and her predicament with North Wales Police (August 1).

I too was caught supposedly speeding in the same place as Eileen by a mobile speed camera. They said I was doing 35mph in a 30mph speed limit.

I also questioned their decision. I knew I had been travelling at 30 because my husband had been taken ill shortly before and I had only just begun driving again. I saw the van with the camera and told the police where they were parked when I appealed against their decision. They sent a photograph which, like the one Eileen had, did not prove anything as you could not see who was driving.

I was offered a safety awareness course or I could go to court, but if I lost like Eileen I would incur hefty court costs.

I opted to go on the awareness course expecting it to be in the Midlands. No such luck. I had to travel to a centre in Flintshire and be there by 9.30am. I explained I was a carer for my disabled husband and asked for it to be moved closer. I was told I would have to put my husband in care for the day.

The attitude of the Welsh police was abominable. They just did not care.

The course lasted three hours and taught me nothing I didn't already know. The cost of the paperwork I was sent and the cost of administration, not just for me but all the others on the course (19 people), was stupid. How many police would have been sitting in the police stations doing all this form filling?

The chief of police there has a zero tolerance with motorists and will even prosecute for doing 31mph in a 30mph zone. He must have caught all the true criminals, so now he picks on us.

Mrs Lynda Foster, Lea Lane, Great Wyrley.
