Councillor Janet Eagland has pledged to make as much money as she can for her chosen charities during her year in office.

And she recently made the pledge to promote the Lichfield District Community Pride Awards Presentation, which will take place on September 1 at this year's Proms in the Park event at Beacon Park.

Since the start of the year groups, organisations and individuals have been pledging to make their community cleaner, greener and safer as part of the Community Pride initiative. From recycling more and holding a community event to taking part in a community litter pick, people have been making their pledges at www.mycommunitypride.org.uk

All pledges have been entered into the running for a Community Pride Award, and later this month Lichfield District Council is to choose three extra special entries to receive an award.

Prizes will be awarded for the best pledge by a child under 16, an adult and a group.

And the lucky trio will be awarded for their efforts on the Proms in the Park stage. "My Community Pride Pledge is to make every effort to raise as much money as I can for my two chosen charities – the County Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support, specifically for Macmillan Nurses," said councillor Eagland.

"I hope lots of people will join me in making a pledge because it is only together that we can create community spirit, which in turn will lead to a cleaner, greener and safer Lichfield District.

"I am looking forward to presenting the prizes as it is great to reward community members who have shown such dedication to making the district even better." Community Pride is a county-wide initiative involving numerous agencies.
