Morgan more hands on - Mick

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes Steve Morgan's takeover will give added impetus to their push for the Premiership.

The Molineux chief reckons Morgan will be a more 'hands on' owner than his predecessor and is looking forward to a long working relationship with the new Wolves chairman.

"No doubt there will be an added enthusiasm because he will be more hands on than Sir Jack has been over the last 12 months that I've been in charge," he said.

"But from my perspective I see it as somebody else coming in with that drive and determination that Sir Jack had to take the club forward.

"That is not saying anything bad to Sir Jack, but maybe his ownership had run his course.

"It is a marvellous gesture he's made and I am eternally grateful for him to giving me the chance to manage Wolves."

McCarthy admits it is a relief for the takeover deal to completed before the club kicks off their Championship campaign against Watford on Saturday.

"I think if we'd have started the season and there had been any sort of uncertainty, people might have started talking about it and I didn't want that.

"We want to get on with the football now and to start talking about that.

"I'm pleased because on Saturday everything is sorted - Steve Morgan is the owner, Jez is the chief executive and I'm the manager.

"We can all crack on and try to better what we did last season."

Morgan has scotched talk of handing McCarthy a promotion ultimatum this season, but both believe promotion is a realistic goal.

The property magnate has pledged to back McCarthy in the transfer market.

"From my point of view we have been going ahead and investing in players and that is because Steve is coming in - there is no other reason for that," he said.
