Flood-hit families in Lichfield were today told how a £100,000 support package will be spent – seven weeks after water devastated the first homes.

District council chiefs have unveiled their recovery grant plans and said the worst hit victims will be top priority.

More than 100 householders whose homes were flooded internally will receive £400.

Grants of £75 will be given to people who live in flats where the communal areas were flooded.

Nearly £30,000 has been set aside for a financial hardship fund.

Community wardens will make home visits to offer one-to-one help with daily issues, support with crisis loans and for meetings with agencies and insurance companies.

The council only received the cash this week from the Government as part of a package to 34 flood-hit authorities across the UK.

It comes seven weeks after the first homes were flooded in Elford and Fazeley, near Tamworth, in June.

Lichfield District Council has written to all householders about the funding package. If a letter is not received by Friday next week, call 01543 308999.
