Students travel to prom in style

There was a time when all a girl needed for a good time at the prom was a limo and a head-turning dress. But students at a Wolverhampton school decided to spice things up a bit - by arriving in a fire engine and an ambulance.

But students at a Wolverhampton school decided to spice things up a bit - by arriving in a fire engine and an ambulance.

The specially adapted vehicles dropped off students from Coppice Performing Arts School at their prom, held at the Connaught Hotel, Tettenhall Road.

The fire engine, which is also popular with hen nights, is decked out with tinted windows, luxury seating, mood lighting and its own sound system.

Danielle Malcolm, aged 16, was one of 12 friends who arrived in the so-called "party ambulance" last night.

"We were hanging out the windows, waving at everybody going past," she said. It was a brilliant night. It was something different for me because I've never experienced it before.

"It was just amazing with all the different dresses and everybody in their suits," she added.

"I'd really like to thank all the teachers involved."

With so many happy memories of life at Coppice, surely it must have been an emotional occasion for the 100 or so students who were leaving the Ashmore Park school?

"Not really, it was just funny," said Danielle. "We had a great time."

The prom was one of a series being enjoyed by school leavers throughout the region.

Earlier this week, pupils from The Kingswinford School donned beautiful gowns and sharp suits for their dazzling prom at the Kingfisher Hotel in Wall Heath, pulling up in stretch white limos.

Claire Cash, aged 16, was one of six friends who arrived in a limo.

Claire, from Kingswinford, said: "There were about 100 people there and it was really good. It was a real night to remember and the perfect way to say goodbye to so many friends."
