PC shooting thug guilty
A violent criminal with a fascination for guns was this afternoon found guilty of trying to shoot dead Wolverhampton policeman Pc Geoff King.
Marcus Bailey, aged 25, was convicted of attempted murder on a unanimous verdict.
Police today released this sinister photo of Bailey living up to his gangster image, posing with a gun held to his head.
The court heard he was obsessed with gun culture and officers seized several snaps of weapons taken with his mobile phone – including one of the gun used to shoot Pc King.
Bailey was also found guilty of using the deadly silver revolver to resist arrest and possession of the weapon to endanger life. He now faces life behind bars.
Today it can be revealed Bailey, of Warnford Walk, Merry Hill, who has stood trial for attempted murder before, was on a curfew at the time.
Chief Supt Richard Green today said: "Marcus Bailey is a very dangerous and callous criminal. Very old fashioned, honest policing undoubtedly led to Bailey being trapped within the police cordon."
The shooting brought terror to a leafy suburb of Wolverhampton, just yards from the A449 and close to a Waitrose supermarket and petrol station, Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and Quality Hotel. Pc King and colleague Pc Karl Ansell spotted Bailey lurking outside Bromford Rise flats, off the Penn Road, late on November 11 last year.
Bailey, who is said to have connections to a city drugs and gun gang, fled and Pc King chased after him. He waited for Pc King before pointing the gun at the officer's head and pulling the trigger three times.
Pc King described that Bailey looked "disappointed" when the first bullet missed. A second bullet grazed his shoulder, while a third tore through his upper chest.
Quick-thinking colleagues, including Pc Ansell, saved the life of the officer, who has been left traumatised with flashbacks and bad dreams.
Disturbing pictures of Bailey posing with weapons came to light when police seized a computer from his mother's house. Gunshot residue covered his coat, while analysis of his mobile phone signals put him near the scene of the shooting.
